Busy, Busy, Busy

Hey guys! I'm kind of on vacation right now visiting family in Atlanta. Took tons of pictures today at the Atlanta Aquarium, Cenntenial Park, and The Atlanta Historic Center so I should have those up when I get back. Right now I'm still AWOL since I don't have wireless access for my laptop and my mom's computer is ancient. Hope everyone is doing great and thanks for all the well wishes on my blogiversary! If I don't have a chance to get on again I'll go ahead and wish you all a Happy Fourth of July now too!

Happy Blogiversary To Me!

First of all I’d like to thank everyone who is sticking with me through my moodiness right now. I guess it’s the change of season but I still haven’t finished a book all month and though it really bothers me I can’t really get up the energy to do so. Also, you may have noticed that I haven’t been stopping by all my favorite blogs lately either. I know, shame on me with my 1000+ Google Reader! I’m sure this phase will pass before too much longer.

Well enough of the whiny, depressing feel! It’s time to celebrate! Today is my Movieholic and Bibliophile Blog 2 year anniversary. Two whole years! Yeah, wow is an understatement! I’ve never stuck with blogging for so long before and the only reason I have for this long is my wonderful readers. To be truthful, I have been blogging on blogger slightly longer since I started my no longer active Ladytink’s Neverland on June 17, 2007 and those posts are now over on the Movieholic. I started The Movieholic and Bibliophile’s blog for the simple reason that Yahoo Movies reviews didn’t have an add picture option and I wanted to be able to post photos and trailers with movie reviews. The first one I ever did was The Haunting (1963) movie. As you can tell if you clicked the link, I have certainly come a long way since then!

Well what about the “bibliophile” part of my title? I knew from the beginning that I wanted to write “reviews” (or more accurately, my opinions) about whatever I was watching, reading, etc. (yes the blog was originally called The Movieholic, Bibliophile, and Music Junkie but I just don’t listen to many albums since I created my playlists so I dropped the last part) Anywho, my first book review wasn’t that much better than my first movie one. It was for Teresa Medeiros’ Yours Until Dawn. (I have updated some of the older ones to include my new format of Title:. Author: , Published, etc. though) About the only thing the same about the old reviews and the ones I do today is that I still tell you what I thought and that I still add pictures to all my posts.

Then the comments started. At first I wasn’t aware of them, actually it was awhile before I was. Then I discovered that people, real, live, interesting people actually read my blog! They cared about my opinion. I was totally gobsmacked! Not really sure how these few people found me since I didn’t read blogs then but each comment was cause for excitement. The Neverland blog seemed to be the one people stumbled across the most though I was lucky if I received more than one comment back then. Not many came back again or had blogs of their own but then Paxton from Cavalcade of Awesome found my post on Black Snake Moan and I had my first regular reader.

For some reason the book reviews weren’t quite as popular as my opinions on movies at first but then Kailana from The Written Word dropped by one day (yes, on one of my movie posts… well, TV post since it was the first and last time I reviewed a TV season). After Kailana came J. Kaye and Wendy (Musings of a Bookish Kitty) when they found my post on Kelley Armstrong’s Haunted and for the first time I realized the hugeness of the book blog community… well, I at least got an inkling.

I’ve come a long way since then. I’ve gotten better at reviewing once I found a format I enjoyed and I discovered many bloggers that I’m more than proud to call friends though I’ve never met any of them. I’d like to thank all of you guys for welcoming me, for continuing to come back even when I have moods like this and don’t post for awhile, but most importantly for being awesome and recommending books and things I would never have discovered on my own. Thank you guys. I can’t take any credit whatsoever for the reason The Movieholic and Bibliophile still exists. It’s all because of you!

So, yeah… well I think I’ve done enough gushing for today (it must be the dye in my hair… yep! I‘m blonde again! Well, sortof. I‘ve got highlights at least. I swear I‘ll put up pictures asap). If you can remember I’d love to know how you found me or why you continue to come back even though I’m not the most reliable blogger. Make me feel loved on my 2 year blogiversary please!

Updates

Hey guys! Sorry I’ve been away so long! I’m still not even all unpacked yet but at least we got a LOT of stuff done this weekend. I got two new lights installed (can you believe the crazy people that lived here took out the light above the sink for some strange reason?), got my ceiling patched where my husband’s electrician friend fell through (twice in one night) while they were installing some exhaust fans, got the front porch and walkway pressure washed, and I even baked cupcakes! So yeah, I was really busy and trying to recooperate these past few days.

Oh, does anyone know how to deter fiddler crabs from getting in the house? I think they’re SO creepy (hard to imagine people actually make pets out of the little things *shiver*)! I seem to sweep at least two a day out the door (three last night) and they really do creep me out…

In other news, I’m still in a reading slump but I’m currently “reading” (looking up online whatever song, show, movie, etc. that’s mentioned) three non-fiction books, all of which are over there in my sidebar. I started listening to James and the Giant Peach last night finally though so maybe I’ll get over it soon. Oh, and I’m finally getting off my lazy rear and responding to all the comments that you wonderful bloggers have left me too.

Here’s an idea I’ve been kicking around for awhile, doing a sort of article on a food, drink, etc. (including commercials) that I’m eating or drinking (I might expand this to other things some day if this goes over well with you guys!) recently. So what do you think? Sounds interesting? Well thanks for listening to me ramble, I’m off to hopefully get caught up on my blogs while I listen to the Bellamy Brothers (yep, I’m finally in the B’s in the Country Encyclopedia!).

Yes, I did take pictures of the parts of the house that I've finished cleaning but my camera is completely dead and I still can't find the charger in this mess...
