Musing Monday-In Books

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about the war books

Do you frequent second hand book stores? Have you ever bought a book home only to find anything interesting within their pages?

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Musing Mondays post, or share your opinion in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks.

I LOVE secondhand stores! You never know what kind of treasure your going to find and usually cheap too! At least half of my books had previous owners actually... including an ARC of Holly Black's Tithe! I picked it up before it came out and before I had a clue who she was because I loved the cover.

Sadly, I've never found anything too interesting inside my books except a few bookmarks (and once a photo of a guy in a tux and baseball hat) but I still hold out hope of finding something amazing one day.
Hey, did you know that there is a website devoted entirely to Things Found in Books?

  1. I love used bookstores. I may now leave some interesting things in the books I donate! LOL

  2. I don't go to used bookstores much - we just don't have any great ones around here. I went to that Things in Books site and it's great!

  3. My local used bookstores have all closed. I do have a favorite in L.A., but it's too far to visit often. I really like Powell's and sometimes will buy used books through them online.

I haven't found anything too exciting in the used books I've bought. The occasional note or bookmark perhaps.

  4. I went to a local rummage sale this weekend and got a great bargain;hardcover copies of Waiter Rant and The Girl Who Played with Fire for fifty cents, sweet!

Unfortunately, the closest thing I have to secondhand/used book stores are thrift shops in my area. You can get some decent reads that way, plus they're good places to donate those books that need to go in order to make room for more:)

  5. I LOVE secondhand bookstores Ladytink! My favourite is in Broadstairs here in England. No wonder Charles Dickens liked living there.

It has two floors and has old books stacked up everywhere, even up the old staircase!

Whenever we go there, I leave my wife sunbathing on the beach and try and spend at least an hour browsing. Sadly I have never found anything left in an old book, but I have bought many!

  6. My copy of March by Geraldine Brooks had a letter inside it. I thought that was particularly neat because the novel is partially told in letters. I heart second hand bookstores and dearly wish there were more near me!

  8. Nise': Yay! If I ever gave away my books, I would too.

Bermudaonion: My favorite used bookstore was up near where my mom lived and I would stop by every time I visited. They closed it down last year :(. They used to have SUCH amazing deals, paperbacks for $1, some hardcovers for $5, and they even had records. Glad you liked the site! I can't remember how I stumbled across it but I love it!

Wendy: Hmm, I've never used Powell's before. I may have to try that. Hey, free bookmarks are always great lol.

Lady T: I love yard sales! I've picked up all kinds of neat things through the years. I have practically every Stephen King book thanks to them.

Clement of the Glen: Oh that sounds lovely. I swear I'm going England one day before I die.

Nymeth: That is a great find!

Caite: No idea but I would love to find something neat one day :o)

  9. I used to frequent used bookstores a lot, but I cut down on those trips due to a bookstore situated near my workplace.

It's always interesting to find what previous bookowners put into their books isn't it? So far I didn't find anything interesting... only receipts, LOL.

  10. Me too! I love secondhand bookstores. My favorite online version is http://www.betterworldbooks.com.

That's an interesting thought. Like Nise', I may leave something interesting too in the books that I donate/give away.
