Musing Monday- Bookstore

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about bookstores…

How many bookstores do you frequent? Do you have a favourite? If so, which one and what makes it so?

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Musing Mondays post, or share your opinion in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks.

There is nothing quite like a bookstore is there? When I lived in Georgia there was a used bookstore I would visit every month that had a wonderful selection of books (not to mention DVDs, Cds, records, comic books, etc.) and even after I moved to Mississippi, I would go by every time I visited. Unfortunately, I’ve never found a store quite like that one since around here and it closed last year.

Chain bookstores on the other hand are always good too and although there aren’t as many around here as I’m used to (no independent stores either), there is a small Waldenbooks in the mall within walking distance from my apartment. I have yet to find a truly wonderful bookstore around here but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop looking! Until then Waldenbooks, Wal-Mart, and Amazon.com get my business when I want to buy… most of the time I just go to the library though!

  1. I have a favorite used bookstore in town, although it doesn't always carry what I want. I more often frequent the two chain bookstores in town. If one doesn't have what I want, the other usually does.

  2. This is the bookstore in your local mall? I'm so jealous. It's about five times the size of my local store.

I need a cozy atmosphere at my bookstore. I don't have it...but I need it.

  6. It's hard to get to a bookstore in my area these days;we used to have a Waldenbooks in our nearest shopping center but it shut down over a year ago due to cutbacks.

There's a B&N but it's located too far away for me to get to. Not alot of indie or used book stores in my neighborhood but there are decent thrift stores around with book sections worth rummaging thru.

  8. I wish there were more bookstores in my town! There's an independent one I like, and a couple of chain ones, but sadly no second hand ones. Ah well...I still like to visit whenever I can.

  9. This one is way bigger than the one in my local mall that I go to. I wish that the prices were more reasonable in the stores then I'd shop there more.

  10. Love that pic, Jen! We have a few big ones in Malaysia: MPH, Kinokuniya, Borders, and Times. My absolute favourite is Kinokuniya. :)

  11. Wendy: I wish my town had an independent bookstore! They're usually so much friendlier than the chains.

Rebecca: It's not the exact one but it's VERY similar. Where all that open glass is to the left of the sign is where our check-out counter is. Now the one is the other malls around here are full-sized chain store though.

Melody: Me too lol. It's so much more clean and open looking than ours.

Caite: I understand that... hm, that could be why I love my library more!

Beth F: Either is really okay with me!

Lady T: The "mall" I live beside (until Sunday) is one of the smallest I've ever seen and the Waldenbooks is just about one of the only "chain" stores left in it! I just know they'll close it one day :(

Zetor: The US doesn't have one of those :( and it sounds like such a neat store too!

Nymeth: Have you tried antique stores? Sometimes they carry used books. I know there is one around here where half is books and the rest is antiques but I haven't been to it yet.

Nise': Yep! Why buy when you can get it for free? Especially if you only plan to read it once!

Dar: Amen! If there is a new book I REALLY want I either wait and get it at Walmart or try to win it online.

Alice Teh: Love that name: Kinokuniya. Not quite sure how to say it but it is neat :)
