The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

What is it about December that makes everyone (well as long as you’re not a last-minute shopper) a little more cheerful? Is it the music? The family you get to see? The presents? The goodies?

December means all of those things to me and more. I was born during this month (the 20th), my great-grandmother was born during this month (the 15th), and several of my friends also celebrate birthday’s during December too. One of them on Christmas Day! So as you can tell, I’ve always done a lot of celebrating during the holidays.

This is the time of the year when my husband and I always go back home to Georgia for the whole two weeks he’s off work (have I mentioned I love the company he works for?). My mom and I spend days baking up a storm to give tins of homemade goodies to all her friends and my in-laws. Homemade fudge (chocolate and peanut butter), peanut brittle, divinity.... you name it, we’ve probably made it.

We also spend the whole month watching tons of Christmas specials and movies. Of course there’s the must-see How the Grinch Stole Christmas (look for a post on this later this week over at Ladytink’s Neverland) but what else has everyone been watching lately? How about reading? I’m currently in the middle of the anthology Holiday’s Are Hell by Kim Harrison, Lynsay Sands, Marjorie M. Liu, & Vicki Pettersson and my mom is reading Blue Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews.

Oh and don’t forget our furry friends this Christmas! Holiday plants like holly and mistletoe are poisonous and the white sap in poinsettias can cause severe stomach problems as well so be careful and have a Merry Christmas!

  1. It looked like a winter wonderland this morning. We had a little ice storm! Everything was encased in ice and I almost slid into a tree on my driveway. Puts me in the mood to shop, from home.

  3. Great post! I haven't really been reading Christmas books yet... but we've been watching Grinch, Dora's Christmas (small kids, sorry), Charlie Brown and The Snowman. And lots of concerts my hubby has recorded over the years off of PBS. Have a happy Christmas!

  4. Ah, its a wonderful Advent post! It certainly sounds like you know how to celebrate the month right. We've already watched quite a few Christmas movies or movies we consider Christmas movies: Elf, Little Women, While You Were Sleeping, Family Man, Love Actually and have several more to go before the season ends.

    Happy early Birthday!!!

  5. Thank you everyone for coming to see me here today! I'm looking forward to seeing some of the Christmas movies that you guys are watching. One of my favorite kind of non-Christmas movies is The Ref with Denis Leary.

  7. I love your Christmas Tree countdowner on your side.
I love Christmas baking too, but I eat too much myself, so I'm trying to cut back.
Yay for the Grinch - we watched it a few nights ago, excellent as ever - stink, stank, stunk!
