How often do you recommend books to others, and who do you recommend them to? Do you only recommend books to your “reading friends” or to anyone you think might find the book interesting? What does it take for a book to make it to your ‘recommendation’ list?
Oh I'm always recommending books to everyone! Family, friends, complete strangers... lol. Friday when I was in Borders two strangers started recommending Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series to each other (which I love) and somehow True Blood came up. Neither lady knew that it was based on Charlaine Harris' books so I pointed them in that direction and each one bought the first three!
To make it on my "recommendation list" the book (or series) has to be something I throughouly enjoyed. I'm always honest even in my blog reviews though I do try to find something good to say about a book even if I didn't enjoy it that much. If I do recommend a book that I only sortof like, it would have to be something that I know that that person would love.

I LOVE recommending things in the bookstore :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite book conversations are usually with strangers in the book shop.
I love recommending books too :)

I don't think I've recommended any books to strangers.
ReplyDeleteHere is mine.
Musing Monday 21
Yesterday when I was browsing for books on the Pavement book bazaar, I did recommend a few books to total strangers. What's more they bought those!

And you always recommend such good ones too! :-)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy recommending books too. It's fun matching books to readers.
I love recommending books too! I don't think I've recommended any to strangers in bookstores but there was one who did to me when she saw me checking out a Jodi Piccoult title. Hehee...
ReplyDeleteI bought the Southern Vampires/True Blood box set from Amazon last week at 40% discount! Can't wait for it to arrive!
Yep! I love recommending books to other people too! If only my friends and all my friends love reading!!!
ReplyDeleteRebecca: Me too. It's like my personal good deed of the day every time I do it.
ReplyDeleteNaida: It's fun isn't it?
Bluestocking: Oh you really should! So many people haven't found blogging yet so they muddle around just picking up whatever they can find.
Guatami Tripathy: Love it when that happens!
Wendy: Aw! Thanks! I know for a fact that there is something for everyone so it always irritates me when I meet someone who refuses to even try to read :( (especially when they are usually really big movie buffs)
Alice: I have the second, the third book, & the eighth book but I'd love to have the set. Hope you enjoy them!
Melody: Amen! What kills me is when I've read something I know without a doubt that a non-reader friend or family member would love but they won't give it the time of day :(
When I was younger my dream was always to own a bookstore so that I could share the books I love with the rest of the world. Now I settle for talking about them online. I've had the odd conversation with strangers in a bookstore, but not recently. I find the major chain stores here are so impersonal, no one really talks like to each other while they're browsing like we used to in the smaller, independent stores.
ReplyDeleteI agree with recommending things that were only so-so...I usually recommend them with a caution so that they know what I didn't like as well as what I liked. I'm constantly recommending books to my Mom and sister :)
